Never not repeating myself/being extremely consistent (and a gigantic nerd), I give you round two of “outfits with particularly niche inspiration” (lol). Catch up on round one below:
Goes to Maine once
Victorian ghost throws a party
Sack of flour
Edwardian athleisure
Scotsman/prep-school/wtf
I had a few more ideas that I didn’t get around to executing, but I love when these prompts land right when I need a little push to get dressed. What other niche inspiration would you wear? I’d love to know!
reading
I finished All Fours by Miranda July and I think it lives up to the hype
The Pairing by Casey McQuiston - a great little vacation read that was probably only 10% too much “will they/won’t they” for my taste ;)
The Other Significant Others by Rhaina Cohen - since I mostly read novels, I’m not being super diligent about reading this, but I’m really interested in the topic of centering friendship throughout life, and I have high hopes about this one!
WIPs
I finally got over myself and got back to working on stuff for the wedding!
remember that tartan linen I got from Stone Mountain back in Jan? I pictured giant, billowy shorts (like these), but had some trouble finding a pattern to match (and ofc the material difference between linen and structured cotton/nylon is signficant). I made the Bailee Shorts by Tessuti, and I think it worked out okay! Josh cut out the pattern pieces for me. :,) What a champ - he even took the pattern matching to heart so I was able to pattern match the tartan pretty well.
lessons learned: how to sew side splits (like on those nice comme si boxers!), using a hem facing, and sewing an elastic channel where the elastic gets sewn down throughout. next time, I’ll try using a stiffer elastic and sewing fewer channels for a cleaner look.
Now that I’ve gotten back in the sewing saddle, I cut out another pair of Bailee Shorts - this time out of a beautiful remnant of silk duiponi that I got at Mood, to try to create a bra/shorts ensemble to go under a silk organza dress I’m making for our wedding :)
highlights from my “residency” over labor day weekend
visiting my 6 year old neighbor’s “flower shop” :,)
the abundance of peaches & tomatoes - so much to freeze for winter!
arranging a bouquet from yard flowers - still can’t believe we put seeds in the ground and these flowers emerged!
Happy beginnings of Autumn, my friends <3
I love your outfits!! particularly edwardian athleisure and sack of flour and your dad's double knee jeans. Sooo cute! The references to your inspiration are really fun. I love those plaid shorts :)
These are so fun. Love the sack of flour! 🤍
