I'm so torn about whether to upholster or just do cushions! I think it's gonna depend on what fabric I can find. I have my eye on some gorgeous fabrics from Block Shop & Cold Picnic but they are $$$ (rightly so, they're well made, but also 😭) so I'm continuing to scheme.

Amazing job with the upholstery and vest! I'm trying to get over my fear of sewing (developed over the last decade-- I used to sew before I had kids, but now I'm struggling to pick it up again). I bought some nice green fabric and this pattern (https://fridaypatterncompany.com/products/donny-shirt-pdf-pattern)-- fingers crossed!
I vote for cushions rather than upholstery, especially if kids are going to be around it haha. Unless you're sitting on it all the time, the movement may not matter? Or perhaps you just need an excuse to practice your upholstery skills, in which case, I can't wait to see what you do!
Agree about American Fantasy. I love Emma Straub, but I had to kind of get through this one. The cover is A+++ though!
Thank you so much!! Gosh, I really relate to the struggling to pick up garment sewing! Over the last couple of days I finally sewed my first buttondown (albeit a PJ top haha), it was equal parts thrilling and frustrating. I find all the prep work so tedious! Why is cutting a pattern so hard?! lol

Honestly great point re:washability & kids lol -- in my mind the slipperiness of cushions was a big issue, but you make very good points! I definitely thought I wanted to practice upholstery more, but/also the cushion sewing should have its own special challenges (piping etc).
Truly great cover -- I feel like we're living in such a fun era of book covers rn!
