Life can really knock us sideways! I was on an upgraded exercise regime and loving it having added strength training to my aquatic program when I ended up hospitalized for 4 days. Have yet to resume the strength training 4 weeks later . You have reminded me to go easy on myself. I love the idea of "enough" lists. I used to keep a small post it on my refrigerator with the Japanese word Orioki written on it. "It is enough/I have enough". Time to post it again!
susan, thank you so much for sharing. I’m sorry to hear about your hospitalization:( that’s so hard!! it takes so much longer to recover from things than we expect, doesn’t it?
i hope you can go easy on yourself, i love the idea of the post it note reminder, what a beautiful word!! 🩵 sending you softness & recovery!
Dear Ani- this resonated with me so perfectly right now. I just became a mom in March and this whole year has been a huge adjustment for me; as a person and as someone who is creative. I have had to redefine my limits almost daily it seems. I am happy to fit in 15minutes of knitting, doing a quick watercolor pencil drawing, or writing a letter to a friend. I hope you can start feeling better soon! It’s seems like you are on the right track with self care.
aw, alyssa - yes! such a huge transition into a huge caretaking role that leaves little bandwidth for other things! so happy to hear you say you're fitting in little bits tho - 15 min is HUGE - I really think any act of devotion to creative practice on a day to day basis is so worth it (while being SO hard to commit to, at many life stages). good on you for carving out this time - you deserve it!
and thank you so much for saying that - I'm trying really hard to get deeply acquainted with my body's language - what does it need? how about now? it's a *practice* for sure, but I'm trying!
oh kasia! i am so humbled to see you here! thank you so much for reading. let me know what you think of nic or oliver's newsletters! I think they're both great!
I’m reading this while riding in the car and I’m very excited to check out all your recommendations!! I have read some of Nic Antoinette’s newsletter but I really want to check out that retirement piece. I just subscribed to Brandi’s newsletter. I looove Oliver Burkeman and his newsletter. I love the idea of emotionally allowing yourself to be done for the day. I’ve been wanting to knit ruffly socks too!! I had my eye on that pattern and one from petite knit too. Please keep us posted on how you like the pattern :)
yay!! I love Nic's newsletter - there are always so many great gems, and the community is just - chef's kiss. like a more alt/queer Cup of Jo commenter situation (which is a high compliment imho). Oliver Burkeman is truly the only "productivity" writer I trust lol
ooh yes! I will keep you posted! hopefully I make a bit of progress on the socks this weekend and I'll send you pics!
