I like a creative brief, especially when it comes to dressing myself (it’s part of why packing for travel is so appealing to me). But there’s nothing quite like a wedding invitation to strike fear into the hearts of us DIY/natural fiber folk.

My usual outfits are just not fancy enough, and I hate to buy something specifically for an occasion. I want to love Christy Dawn & Doen dresses, but something doesn’t quite add up for me (if anyone knows, can you tell me? also let’s be real, the price point on their finer fabric garments is a little unfriendly). Reformation feels a little too… sterile? and Selkie is adorable but just too saccharine (and definitely too short for my legs). I spend hours googling “100% silk dress” only to realize that all of these dresses are far too expensive for how often I’m likely to wear them. Eventually, I turn to “Rent the Runway”, hoping it will satiate the need for fancy one-off wear without breaking the bank. In the end, it turned out to be a little too c…
